About the Program
The fellowship program in clinical chemistry and toxicology combines training in the analytical, clinical, regulatory and administrative aspects of clinical chemistry, toxicology and molecular diagnostics with applied research experience. The training is designed to prepare the candidate for a career in academic laboratory medicine, clinical practice, industry, or private reference laboratory practices by providing a foundation to apply to future developments in clinical pathology as well as current practice. The training program is organized in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology within the Hennepin Healthcare system. Extensive training in clinical and forensic toxicology in conjunction with the Minnesota Poison Control Center and Medical Examiner’s office is included. The primary training faculty includes 6 individuals of varied backgrounds and interests. The period of the fellowship is two years.
Program Requirements
To be considered for the program, prospective fellows must have:
- PhD in physical or biological sciences or an MD degree from an appropriately accredited university or college.
- Minimum of 30 semester hours (undergraduate or graduate level) of coursework in chemistry or biochemistry prior to admission into the training program is required.
Trainee selection will conform to institutional requirements for equal employment opportunity and be based solely on qualifications related to successful completion of the training program.

Applications accepted September through April of year preceding the July start date. Currently accepting applications for a July 2026 start date. Start dates will be July 1 (preferred), November 1, or March 1 so that recruiting is not confined to one time of year.

Selected applicants may be invited to an in-person interview which includes a seminar presentation.
